I'd taken up regular darts practice at Christmas but had very rarely practiced 501, and never worked out my average, so I played some games against myself before going to Bognor. My best was a 13-darter - 81,140,180,50 (20,5,25), Bullseye. That's very unusual though. I had the same problems I have with putting, in that my hands shake as soon as I'm playing a match. But that was only in a practice match beforehand - nerves settled down a bit for the competition.
I did get to Worthing - but only late on Sunday afternoon, as I delayed to a later train, after I'd got my ticket. I was expecting it to have the obstacles: it's not very noticeable from the promenade, but I had a walk around it in the rain. It's like a cross between Hastings Mini -with all the little undulations - and Stratford-upon-Avon. I'll be back at Bognor in March at least. I went to Littlehampton on Monday, before my homeward journey. There's a Davey Jones Sports that has a big darts selection. It's a funny coincidence for me as the only shop in Rhyl that has one is Davey Jones Locker.
There might be Tuesday night competitions at the Bognor Regis Arnold Palmer course, next year. I only spoke to the man in the hut briefly, as it was busy on the Saturday and I had my darts tournament in the afternoon, and it wasn't open on Monday as the weather was so bad. There's a big issue there with proposed redevelopment of the promenade but I wouldn't have thought it would affect the course. He admitted Rhyl was a bit far for me to travel every Tuesday for a match.
