The London Minigolf Club became three-time BMGA British Club Champions at the weekend as the British Minigolf Association Tour returned to Dorset on Sunday 4th October as Sandbanks Crazy Golf course hosted the eighth annual BMGA British Club Championships minigolf tournament.
The competition was played in a round robin matchplay format with the London B team of Chris Jones Steve Gow, Alan Norman and Gareth Holmes winning the competition having played seven matches and winning five of them. The win was the first BMGA Tour victory for both Gareth Holmes and Alan Norman, with the ranking points lifting Alan to 15th place in the BMGA Order of Merit.
London Minigolf Club Captain Brad ‘The Fist’ Shepherd said “I'm delighted London has won the Club Championship after several close calls in the last few years. This is the first time we've won it under my captaincy and I think both of my teams played very well, and all the players were a credit to the club. We look forward to defending the title in 2010"
London B Captain Chris ‘Stretch’ Jones said “We certainly had a great time and got a result. Thanks to everyone for coming, and especially the organisers and the course owner for making it happen.
Oh, and of course it's great to see London on top!”
Steve ‘F1’ Gow said “The evening before the tournament there was a discussion about perhaps one of the B team transferring to the A team. None of wanted to transfer. I think we all thought we had a better chance than the A team. Our first match was against Hastings B. On the first hole they got three aces. Chris and I both took 2's, thus losing the first hole without Gareth and Alan even playing a shot. From there the only way was up.”
The final rankings from the BMGA British Club Championships were as follows:
1) London B - 15 points
=2) London A - 13
=2) Hastings A - 13
4) Kent - 10
=5) Midlands B - 8
=5) Hastings B - 8
7) Midlands A - 7
8) Sandbanks - 6
