Sunday 16th October saw the BMGA Tour return to Wales for the eagerly awaited 2016 WELSH OPEN.

The Open was contested over three rounds of strokeplay on the ANCIENT EXPLORER course at the excellent TREETOP ADVENTURE GOLF CENTRE in Cardiff.

Michael Smith successfully defended his title, winning the event by 8 shots from Seve Kukielka who finished second with Sean Homer in third place. Reflecting on his victory after the competition Michael said "I’m delighted to have won the Welsh Open and to have equalled my 3 round total from last year. Once again, the course proved to be a formidable opponent with many very good BMGA Tour Pros shooting over par rounds. I’d like to thank Hayley and all the team at Treetop Adventure Golf for their incredibly generous hospitality across the weekend, including the welcome party on the Friday. I’d also like to pay tribute to Sean, Marion, Scott and Paul for running the tournament so smoothly. It was yet another wonderful tournament on the 2016 BMGA Tour".

As well as the overall Welsh Open title there was also a dedicated trophy for the top Local novice - the Treetop Open Championship. Russell Crocker retained this title with Simon Brown second and Terry Burgin third.
