Olivia Prokopova becomes a two-time World Crazy Golf Champion in Hastings PDF Print E-mail

The 2017 World Crazy Golf Championships took place over the weekend of 10th and 11th June, attracting players from across the UK and Europe, all competing for the biggest prize fund ever in the competitions history. As well as the £1000 for the overall winner and an additional £2,000 prize fund for the top players overall, the 2017 event also had a purse of £1,500 exclusively for the novice players, with the best placed novice picking up £500 at the event.


After a thrilling final day, Olivia Prokopova from the Czech Republic became a two time World Champion with a stunning victory, storming through the field to win the event by 5 shots, picking up the trophy and £1000.

Steve Lovell came second with a score of 240 (-12) and taking the second-place prize of £750. Will Donnelly finished in third with a total score of 241 (-11) and took the £500 third place prize after beating Chris Harding in a playoff with an ace at the first sudden death lane. Chris Harding came fourth also with a score of 241 (-11) and won £300. Adam Kelly came fifth with a score of 242 (-10) after winning a three way play off, against Nuno Cunha and Mark Wood, with an ace at the second sudden death hole and won £200. Nuno Cunha came sixth also with a score of 242 (-10) and won £125. Mark Wood finished seventh also with a score of 242 (-10) and won £75.


The Top Non BMGA Tour Pro not classified as a novice was Rocky Bullin with a score of 244 (-8) winning £50 with an ace at the first sudden death lane against Ed Pope and Freddie Blackburn Shaw.

The Top Category 2/3/4 Tour Pro (outside the top 18) was David Hartley with a score of 214 (-2) winning £50.

The winner of the 2017 Gommery was Jessica Pilgrim with a total of 16 aces. The Gommery is presented annually at the World Crazy Golf Championships to the player with the highest number of aces outside of the top 18. Thank you to Dave and Liz Gomm for sponsoring this award once again.

Speaking after her victory, Olivia said “This year it was a very hard tournament for me. First round I had three bogeys and no aces. It was bad start to the tournament. But my motto is never give up. After the first day, I was 17th place and my first step was play in final round of 18 players. I don' t know what happened that I played great on second day but it was incredible for me. I want to thank everybody there, players, organizers and Hastings Adventure golf for everything. And also I want thank my parents, my coaches Adam and Mark, my sparring partner Tana and my sponsors! I enjoy every time with the people there! And congratulations to all winners!


Jimmy Exall became the World Crazy Golf Novice Champion with a seven-round score of 255 (+3). He won £500 along with the Novice title. David Taylor came second, four shots behind along with winning the £300 prize with a score of 259 (+7). Alex Hyman came third, one shot further back along with winning the £200 prize with a score of 260 (+8). Joshua Clarke came fourth winning the £150 prize with a score of 268 (+17). Martin Relf came fifth winning the £125 prize with a score of 269 (+17). Neil Brown came sixth winning the £100 prize with a score of 269 (+17). Henri Myers came seventh winning the £75 prize with a score of 273 (+21). Mark Watson came eighth winning the £50 prize with a score of 275 (+23).

At the close of play on Saturday, the BMGA Hole in One Challenge took place on hole 2. Congratulations to Martin Relf and Derek Bentall for managing to get an ace at the chosen hole. In total, £34.50 was raised for the 2017 BMGA charity which will be decided at the Players Championship later this season.
