Event preview: The 2017 World Crazy Golf Championships are ready for action in Hastings PDF Print E-mail

The 2017 World Crazy Golf Championships will be taking place in Hastings this coming weekend over Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June. The field will gather at the Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf course at Hastings Adventure Golf where play will begin at 9.30 on Saturday morning where three time World Crazy Golf Champion Chris Harding will lead the field out.

All players will play four rounds on Saturday along with at least two further rounds on Sunday. The top 18 players overall and top 9 novices will then qualify for the final “crazy crazy round” where all three balls shall be in play at once.

2017 will be the 15th time that the competition has been hosted, with the event taking centre stage in Hastings every time. The ball for the tournament this year will mirror that used in recent years with a 2017 WMF accredited, World Crazy Golf Championships ball. This ball will be available for all players to collect from Friday and is the official tournament ball which all participants must use on every hole.

Former champions Chris and Olivia Prokopova will both be playing again this year and there promises to be many challengers with the real possibility of a new world champion being crowned.

Speaking ahead of the event, Chris, who made his debut in this event in 2006 said “After some time off I am really looking forward to returning to what I consider to be the flagship event on the tour. From the fierce competition on the course to the comradery off it makes for a great weekend. Simon Tompkins and everyone at the course enhance the overall feel good factor with hospitality second to none. Can't wait for things to get started!”

Sean Homer, BMGA Chairman, sums up the appeal of the event as we draw ever closer to the competition teeing off on Saturday "The World Crazy Golf Championships is always a great way for players to experience the excitement and fun of a minigolf tournament and continues to be one of the highlights of the season. If you only play one event on our tour then this is the one to play - it's great fun and for the novice players a chance to get a few quid but wherever you finish it will be a weekend you will never forget!! The hospitality we receive (you have to try the fish and chips at the Beach Retreat when in Hastings) and welcome we all get from the team at Hastings Adventure Golf makes this a tournament to remember for everyone who takes part and this year promises to be another cracking competition."

A breakdown of all the possible contenders for the competition can be seen on the BMGA Facebook page ( There will also be some live streaming of the competition on the BMGA Facebook page over the course of the weekend.
