British Minigolf Association

After months of waiting, it is now less than a week to go before the 15th World Crazy Golf Championship tees off on Saturday 10th June on the Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf Course at Hastings seafront. This pack contains the key information that you will need to make this weekend's competition a tournament to remember for all the players!!! The competition is one of the highlights of the BMGA tour calendar and is always an exciting and entertaining event for everyone who takes part.

And let’s not forget that minigolf should be fun.

This is what myself and the Executive Committee have always aimed for and it is always wonderful to see players demonstrating passion, great sportsmanship, competitiveness, camaraderie and fair play at our events and at the same time having a brilliant time on and off the greens.… after all this isn’t the World Sensible Golf Championship!

As always, if you have any questions regarding the Competition (or the info below - which is also available as a downloadable Word document) please do not hesitate to contact me, either via e-mail or I will be at the course on Thursday from 10am onwards and I am more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

I look forward to seeing you at the seafront this coming weekend for what promises to be a terrific event!

Hastings Adventure Golf and the British Minigolf Association are getting ready for all comers to the 2017 World Crazy Golf Championships taking place over the weekend of 10th and 11th June, attracting players from across the UK and Europe, all competing for the biggest prize fund ever in the competitions history. As well as the £1000 for the overall winner and an additional £2,000 prize fund for the top players overall, the 2017 event also has a purse of £1,500 exclusively for the novice players, with the best placed novice picking up £500 at the event. And if a novice wins the overall event, then they will also pick up the £1000 for the winner as well!! A perfect incentive for new players who want to take part in this fantastic competition.

For the 2017 event, a ‘Novice’ player is classed as any plyer taking part in their first or second World Crazy Golf Championships. NB. International players who are currently or have previously been members of any recognised World Minigolf Sport federations are not classed as ‘novice’ players. Any player eligible for the novice category will be identified on the entry list with a (N).

  • Top Category 2/3/4 BMGA Tour Pro: £50 (NB: this will be for the top placed BMGA tour pro player (from cat 2, 3 or 4) outside of the top 18 places)
  • Aces Champion this year will again receive the GOMMERY (for the player with the most hole in one’s outside of the top 18 finishers). This trophy is sponsored and will once again be presented by Dave and Liz Gomm (the player gets to keep it until the next WCGC)

Play will tee off on Saturday 10th June at 9.30am (a rolling start with groups of two or three players, all starting at hole 1) with all players playing 4 rounds of 18 holes on the course.

The estimated finish time for the final group of the 4th round on Saturday is 4.30pm.

After close of play on Saturday we will be hosting a hole in one challenge (with 50% of the proceeds going to the BMGA's charity for 2017 which will be chosen by our 2017 Players Champion who will be crowned the day before the British Open tees off in July).

Sunday will consist of 2 further rounds for all players, with play scheduled to start at 9am (in reverse leader board order – i.e. the players at the foot of the leader board teeing off first and the top of the leader board going out in the last groups for round 5). After 6 rounds, the top 18 players overall and the top 9 novice players will qualify for the final round (featuring the legendary Crazy Crazy Rules with all balls in play in each group!) to decide the winner. This round is expected to start around 1.30pm (the timings will be confirmed on the day).

The estimated finish time on Sunday is 4pm. (Please note the day 2 tee off times and groups will be confirmed at the close of play on day 1).

To enable everyone to stay bang up to date with the competition as it progresses throughout the weekend, live round by round results will be streamed on the internet from Saturday morning once the event has started at the following link:

As mentioned earlier, the tournament is being run with a rolling start. This will enable players to watch other players throughout the day (there will always be people out on the course!) and offers a unique insight into the challenges that the course provides. Players remain in their groups throughout the 4 rounds on Saturday (alternating the playing order) and the tee off times for round 1 are listed below, along with the groups for the day ('N' indicates a Novice for the 2017 event):

Players must ensure that they report to the Officials Hut at the course no later than 15 minutes before their scheduled tee-off time.

PLEASE NOTE: Subsequent rounds for each group will tee off 90 minutes after your previous round. For example: group 1 round 1 tees off at 9.30, round 2 at 11.00, Round 3 at 12.30 and their final round at 14.00 (NB: timings are subject to change but if there are any changes we will endeavour to see players teeing off at similar start times to the published times above).

Sean Homer is Tournament Director for the weekend and the other members of the Executive Committee - Mark Wood, Adrian Amey, Owen Johnson, Scott Lancley and Will Donnelly - will be refereeing the competition over the weekend.

The BMGA tournament rules for the World Crazy Golf Championship can be found at the following link

Please note that player 1 in each of the groups above is an experienced WCGC player and they will be happy to assist with any questions you may have during each round.

To ensure the event has a level playing field for all players once again all players will be playing with the Official WMF Approved championship golf ball, available from Friday 9th at the course. All players receive this ball as part of their entry fee (and is yours to keep after the event). Any player losing their ball will need to buy a replacement for £5 or will not be able to continue in the competition.

Official timings over the tournament weekend are as detailed below:

  • Friday 9 June – Free practice all day for tournament entrants
  • Saturday 10 – 9.00am practice ends, opening speeches, rulings and group photo
  • Saturday 10 – 9.30am onwards – WCGC day 1
  • Saturday 10 – 4.30pm onwards – Hole In One Challenge
  • Saturday 10 – players can practice on Saturday evening once the final group in the afternoon session have completed their fourth round.
  • Sunday 11 – Practice allowed up to 8.30am
  • Sunday 11 – 9am onwards – WCGC day 2 (*as highlighted earlier in the pack, the Sunday start time may be subject to change)

The course is offering an excellent all day practice rate of just £3.50 day for all competitors (Monday to Thursday inclusive) – payable at reception on arrival (with free practice on the Friday 9th for all competition entrants). All players need to pay prior to commencing practice. Players need to ensure that they do not hold up any of the public when practicing (the course will be open to the public during the week, closing only for Friday practice and Saturday and Sunday competition days). You can read more information from the course at the end of this pack including opening times and a superb discount offer.

The build up to the event as always is attracting a lot of attention from various media outlets and the BBC Breakfast team will be at the course on Thursday morning to do a piece on the upcoming competition and we are looking for players to get involved in the filming. If you would like the chance for some TV stardom (!!) then you will need to be at the course on Thursday morning by 10.30am. When you arrive (once you've paid your practice rate) then come and find Sean and you will have a chance of seeing yourself on the Beeb over the weekend.

A warm welcome to all players for the 2017 event. As ever we at Hastings Adventure Golf are extremely excited and proud to be holding the World Crazy Golf Championships again this year.

The course will be open on Friday 9th until 10pm weather permitting and the same again on the Saturday 10th after the first days play.

The tournament office will be adjacent to the main course kiosk, the same location as last year, and all player questions, feedback and scorecards, etc will be managed through this addition to the courses for the event.

All WCGC Players will be offered a 35% discount at the new Fish and Chips shop and a 50% discount at our other catering outlets from Friday 9th through to both tournament days. We do ask players to make the staff aware that they are playing in the tournament prior to ordering. All players will be presented with a specially marked business card from the tournament organisers to ensure they also receive the relevant discount. The Beach Retreat Cafe offers panini's, hot dogs, toasted sandwiches, cold snacks (even Salads for the athletes out there) as well as the usual hot and cold drinks. The Kiosk behind the golf will offer Hot and Cold drinks and will be stock piling Hot Doughnuts for those that enjoy a stable diet.

Toilets, there are two options. The public toilets are situated at the far end of the crazy golf course or we have our own toilets in The Beach Retreat Cafe which can be located at the far end of the Adventure course.

That's it from us and we are looking forward to another successful championship and lets all start praying for good weather.

Best of Luck to All!

All the team at Hastings Adventure Golf
