2017 British Masters preview: Splash Point in Worthing host the showdown for the BMGA tweed jacket PDF Print E-mail

While the world’s top golfers are battling it out on the fairways and greens of Augusta for the coveted Masters green jacket in April, Britain’s minigolfers will compete in their own British Masters on the south coast.

Could it be you who has the privilege of wearing the green jacket this year after winning the BMGA British Masters? You have the chance to join the list of winners of what many players consider to be the BMGA’s “fourth major” and sit alongside some of the greats in British minigolf, such as Michael Smith, Adam Kelly and Nuno Cunha in the Masters hall of fame.

The players at the 2016 British Masters prepare for the competition to tee off

The 2017 British Masters will be taking place on the challenging, yet rewarding Splash Point Minigolf Course in Worthing. The course, which is owned and run by BMGA members Peter Emmerson and Anthony Pope, opened in 2010 and is playing host to the British Masters for the sixth successive year. The event will tee off on Sunday 9th April at 9:30am and consists of four rounds with an estimated finish time of 4pm.

Entries are now open and the current list of confirmed entrants can be found at http://bmga.co.uk/2017BM/result.htm  (this will revert to the live results once the competition tees off on the Sunday).

As well as the trophy, the tweed jacket and prize money for the top players overall, there will be prizes for the top placed players in Category 2 and Category 3 & 4. There will be additional prizes for the top women, juniors and seniors players, subject to there being three players participating in each respective category.

This is only the third competition of the new season and it promises once again to be a hard fought, hotly contested event.

BMGA chairman Sean Homer is looking forward to the tour returning to Worthing, now firmly established on the as the home of the Mini Masters. "The British Masters is always an eagerly anticipated event on the tour and with Splash Point hosting the competition for the sixth year in a row, we should see a feast of minigolf as the top players from across the UK fight it out for the honour to wear the coveted BMGA Masters jacket and be crowned the Masters champion 2017. The course always proves to be a tough challenge and will be one of the hardest events to call in terms of who will win. Whoever wins will be a worthy champion and it promises once again to be a brilliant event."

There will be more updates and information being posted on our official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/BMGAMinigolf) and our Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/BMGA_minigolf) in the build up to the event.

The BMGA tour features events throughout the year at venues across the UK. In 2017, the tour will visit Worthing, Wroxham Barns, Margate, Hastings, Dunton Hills, Cardiff, Sidcup and Birmingham and with a few events still to be added the tour is looking very strong for the year ahead.
