Birmingham’s Chris Harding wins Star City Open Minigolf Tournament

Adventure Island Minigolf Course tees-off BMGA’s 2009 Minigolf Season

The first tournament of the British Minigolf Association’s 2009 Season teed-off at the BMGA Star City Open at Birmingham’s 36-hole Adventure Island Mini Golf course on Sunday 18th January.

Playing one round on the Hidden Cove course and two rounds on the Lost Hut Trail course 33 players took to the course for the BMGA Star City Open which was won by Birmingham’s Chris Harding with a three round total of 89 (-19). This score included a new Hidden Cove course record of 25 (-11) and is also the lowest ever score on a UK 18-hole minigolf course by a British player.

Second was Jam Trubridge on 98 (-10), and following a play-off win against Kevin Moseley Peter Emmerson took third place with a score of 100 (-8).

BMGA Star City Open winner Chris Harding said “It was great to win my local tournament but what made it extra special was the round of 25 which is the lowest round ever over 18 holes in the UK. Let's hope the rest of the season goes as well.”

Runner-up Jam Trubridge said “I was always aiming to finish in the top three and was thoroughly impressed with Chris's master class, getting a score of 25 is unbelievably good.”

In the days other competitions Jo Williamson of Planet Hastings Crazy Golf Club picked up the Aces Championship for most holes-in-one.

In the junior’s competition Matthew Harding from Birmingham was first, with Leo Kukielka from Wales runner-up. Owen Johnson from Birmingham was third and in fourth spot was Sally Booth from Kent.

In the Novice competition Marc Chapman from Kent was first, Elliot Ward from Guildford was second and Birmingham’s Owen Johnson was in third place.

The tournament was the first the British Minigolf Association has held on an indoor course. Adventure Island Mini Golf Manager John Whitehead said “The inaugural indoor BMGA event and the first Star City Open was a fantastic day, with records broken throughout! The standard of golf was simply amazing with a new course record of 25 being set and all competitors having a wonderful day. All at Adventure Island congratulate the BMGA and all of the competitors and look forward to next year's event!"
