Welcome to the World of Crazy Golf as Hastings host the 2016 World Crazy Golf Championships PDF Print E-mail

Let's Go Crazy...

If the weather during last weeks’ school break was anything to go by, you’d be forgiven for thinking its October, but it’s not! This weekend will see the first summer ‘version’ of the World Crazy Golf Championships (WCGC) held once again on the Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf course at Hastings Adventure Golf.

Defending champion and UK Number 1, Michael Smith, will return to see if he can turn his 3 titles into 4, along with the top players in the UK from the BMGA Tour. This field of over 70 players will all have their hopes of becoming the 2016 WCGC Champion.

In an interesting new development not only will we crown the overall WCGC champion who will take away a wallet busting £1000 and the trophy, but also a new Novice* Champion with an individual top prize of £500. This great concept is thanks to the sponsors of the Tournament Castle Golf.

* A ‘Novice’ player is classed as any 1st year Tour Pro that has not previously played in any BMGA ‘Major’ as a Tour Pro and Non Tour Pro’s who are playing in their first World Crazy Golf Championship(WCGC) or have only played in one previous WCGC. NB. Existing or Previous Tour Pro’s (with the above exception), International players who are currently or have previously been members of any recognised World Minigolf Sport federations are not classed as ‘novice’ players. Any player eligible for the novice category is identified on the entry list with a (N).

What does this course have in store for the competitors this year?

Throughout Saturday 11th June, you’ll be able to watch 2 sessions (AM session Teeing-off from 9am, PM session teeing-off from 1:30pm) in which competitors will play their first four rounds of this championship.

On Sunday 12th June, teeing-off from 10am, the leader board will tee-off in reverse order and play two more rounds. The 7th and final ‘Crazy Crazy’ round will involve the top 18 players on the leader board (playing for the title and a share of the £3,000 prize fund), as well a 12 novice players (playing to finish in the top 8 novice positions with a share of the additional exclusive £1,500 prize fund.)

Everyone is in the same position all playing 18 holes each round with the new 2016 WMF accredited, World Crazy Golf Championship ball, and what a beautiful round sphere it is too!

Spectators are welcome on both days and please; don’t be afraid to ask what this tournament is all about at our dedicated tournament office by the side of the course.

Look out, during the tournament for these players looking to wrestle the title from the hands of the Number 1:

  • Adam Kelly: UK Number 2, and recently crowed 2016 British Champion.
  • Olivia Prokopova: (CZE) The young, but very familiar WCGC winner of 2013, the first and only female winner of the title.
  • Nuno Cunha: (POR) A regular of the BMGA tour and all round nice guy.
  • Pasi Aho: (FIN) This favourite frequent participant of this tournament is known for finding his way into the into the final top 6 places of the tournament.

And a special mention also to BMGA chairman Sean Homer, who (if we are to believe the statisticians of the tour) will be playing in his 100th BMGA ranked stroke play tournament this weekend – congratulations indeed!

To enable everyone to stay bang up to date with the competition as it progresses throughout the weekend, live round by round results will be streamed on the internet from Saturday morning once the event has started here
