British Minigolf Association

After months of waiting, it is now less than a week to go before the World Crazy Golf Championship tees off on Saturday 11th June on the Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf Course at Hastings seafront. This pack contains the key information that you will need to make this weekend's competition a tournament to remember for all the players!!! The competition is one of the highlights of the BMGA tour calendar and is always an exciting and entertaining event for everyone who takes part.

And let’s not forget that minigolf should be fun.

This is what myself and the Executive Committee have always aimed for and it is always wonderful to see players demonstrating passion, great sportsmanship, competitiveness, camaraderie and fair play at our events and at the same time having a brilliant time on and off the greens.

And as one wise man said at the World Crazy Golf Championship last season as players prepared to take to the course for a weekend of exciting, action packed minigolf “Remember to enjoy yourself and have fun out there… after all this isn’t the World Sensible Golf Championship!”.

Wise words indeed.

As always, if you have any questions regarding the Competition (or the info below) please do not hesitate to contact me, either via e-mail or I will be at the course on Thursday from 10am onwards and I am more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

I look forward to seeing you at the seafront this coming weekend for what promises to be a terrific event!

As well as the change of date for the competition (ensuring - hopefully - sunshine and warm days play) the event also sees some major changes in the format to ensure a brilliant competition whilst maintaining the unique feel of the World Crazy Golf Championships. As well as the £1000 for the overall winner and an additional £2,000 prize fund for the top players overall, the 2016 event also has a purse of £1,500 exclusively for the novice players, with the best placed novice picking up £500 at the event, now in the new summer slot in the calendar. And if a novice wins the overall event, then they will also pick up the £1000 for the winner as well!! A perfect incentive for new players who want to take part in this fantastic competition.

For the 2016 event, a ‘Novice’ player is classed as any 1st year Tour Pro that has not previously played in any BMGA ‘Major’ as a Tour Pro and Non Tour Pro’s who are playing in their first World Crazy Golf Championship(WCGC) or have only played in one previous WCGC. NB. Existing or Previous Tour Pro’s (with the above exception), International players who are currently or have previously been members of any recognised World Minigolf Sport federations are not classed as ‘novice’ players. Any player eligible for the novice category will be identified on the entry list with a (N).

The overall prize fund over the weekend is as follows;

  • 1st place: £1000 and World Crazy Golf Championship trophy
  • 2nd place: £750

  • Top Category 2/3/4 BMGA Tour Pro: £50 (NB: this will be for the top placed BMGA tour pro player (from cat 2, 3 or 4) outside of the top 18 places)
  • Aces Champion this year will again receive the GOMMERY (for the player with the most hole in one’s outside of the top 18 finishers). This trophy is sponsored and will once again be presented by Dave and Liz Gomm (the player gets to keep it until the next WCGC)

The event will tee off from 9am on the Saturday and players will be split into a morning start and an afternoon start (the afternoon session will start at 1.30pm). Each player will play 4 rounds on the Saturday and a further 2 rounds on the Sunday. There will then be a final round for the top 12 novices and top 18 players overall using the legendary crazy crazy rules. Full details of this will be communicated on the competition weekend.

Due to the two separate tee off groups, there will be no practice for any players on the Saturday - but as always, the entry fee includes free practice at the course on the Friday. No practice is allowed on the Crazy Golf course between the course closing on Friday evening and the start of the tournament on Saturday. Any player breaching the practice rule will be disqualified from the event. Players may warm up on the other 2 courses at the seafront, providing they do not obstruct or impede the general public.

Play will tee off on Saturday 11th June at 9am (a rolling start with groups of three players, all starting at hole 1) with all players playing 4 rounds of 18 holes on the course. The final group of the morning session will finish around 2pm and the final group of the day will finish around 6.30pm. The details of tee off times for each group for the day will be published in the tournament hut on Saturday morning.

Sunday will consist of 2 further rounds for all players, with play scheduled to start at 10am (in reverse leader board order – i.e. the players at the foot of the leader board teeing off first and the top of the leader board going out in the last groups for round 5). After 6 rounds, the top 18 players overall and the top 12 novice players will qualify for the final round (featuring the legendary Crazy Crazy Rules with all balls in play in each group!) to decide the winner.

The estimated finish time on Sunday is 5.30pm. (Please note the day 2 tee off times and groups will be confirmed at the close of play on day 1).

To enable everyone to stay bang up to date with the competition as it progresses throughout the weekend, live round by round results will be streamed on the internet from Saturday morning once the event has started at the following link:

As mentioned earlier, the tournament is being run with a rolling start. This will enable players to watch other players throughout the day (there will always be people out on the course!) and offers a unique insight into the challenges that the course provides. Players remain in their groups throughout the 4 rounds on Saturday (alternating the playing order) and the tee off times for round 1 are listed below, along with the groups for the day:

Players must ensure that they report to the Officials Hut at the course no later than 15 minutes before their scheduled tee-off time.

PLEASE NOTE: Subsequent rounds will tee off as follows. Round 2 will tee off 60 minutes after your round 1 tee off time. Round 3 will tee off 74 minutes after round 2 tee off time and round 4 will tee off 60 minutes after round 3 tee off time.

(NB: timings are subject to change but if there are any changes we will endeavour to see players teeing off at similar start times to the published times above).

is Tournament Director for the weekend and the members of the Executive Committee - Tony Kelly, Mark Wood, Martin Greenhead, Scott Lancley and Keith Kellard - along with Sean, will be refereeing the competition over the weekend.
The BMGA tournament rules for the World Crazy Golf Championships can be found at the following link

Please note that player 1 in each of the groups above is an experienced WCGC player and they will be happy to assist with any questions you may have during each round.

To ensure the event has a level playing field for all players once again all players will be playing with the new Official WMF Approved championship ball (as pictured below), available from Friday 10th at the course. All players receive this ball as part of their entry fee (and is yours to keep after the event). Any player losing their ball will need to buy a replacement for £10 or will not be able to continue in the competition.

Official timings over the tournament week are as detailed below:

  • Friday 10 – Free practice all day for tournament entrants.

  • Saturday 11 - 9am onwards – WCGC day 1

  • Saturday 11 – players can practice on Saturday evening once the final group in the afternoon session have completed their fourth round.

  • Sunday 12 – Practice allowed up to 30 minutes before day 2 start

  • Sunday 12 – 10am onwards – WCGC day 2 (*as highlighted earlier in the pack, the Sunday start time may be subject to change)

The course is offering an excellent all day practice rate of just £3.25 day for all competitors (Monday to Thursday inclusive) – payable at reception on arrival (with free practice on the Friday 10th for all competition entrants). Players need to ensure that they do not hold up any of the public when practicing (the course will be open to the public during the week, closing only for Friday practice and Saturday and Sunday competition days). You can read more information from the course at the end of this pack including opening times and a superb discount offer.

A warm welcome to all players for the 2016 event. As ever we at Hastings Adventure Golf are extremely excited and proud to be holding the World Crazy Golf Championships again this year.

The course will be open on Friday 10th until 10pm weather permitting and the same again on the Saturday 11th after the first days play.

The tournament office will be adjacent to the main course kiosk, the same location as last year, and all player questions, feedback and scorecards, etc will be managed through this addition to the courses for the event.

All WCGC Players will be offered a 25% discount at the new Fish and Chips shop and a 50% discount at our other atering outlets from Friday 10th through to both tournament days. We do ask players to make the staff aware that they are playing in the tournament prior to ordering. All BMGA tour pros will need to show their valid tour card before ordering. All other players will be presented with a specially marked BMGA business card from the tournament organisers to ensure they also receive the relevant discount. The Beach retreat Cafe offers panini's, hot dogs, toasted sandwiches, cold snacks (even Salads for the athletes out there) as well as the usual hot and cold drinks. The Kiosk behind the golf will offer Hot and Cold drinks and will be stock piling Hot Doughnuts for those that enjoy a stable diet.

Toilets, there are two options. The public toilets are situated at the far end of the crazy golf course or we have our own toilets in The Beach Retreat Cafe which can be located at the far end of the Adventure course.

That's it from us and we are looking forward to another successful championship and lets all start praying for good weather.

Best of Luck to All!

All the team at Hastings Adventure Golf
