Annual General Meeting, Membership and British Matchplay Championship information PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday 27th February, the day before the 2016 BMGA season opener, the English Open, the BMGA Annual General Meeting will take place in Nottingham (venue tbc, from 2pm– 5pm approx).

The Executive Committee are currently requesting members motions for the AGM. Any current 2016 Tour Pro can forward a motion, details of which need to be emailed to Sean Homer, BMGA Chairman ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) within the next 2 weeks (motions must be submitted by end of day Saturday 13th February). All motions must be detailed in the email and due to the nature of voting (see below) will need to have a clear Yes or No outcome.

A list of the motions will then be published on the BMGA website by end of day on Saturday 20th, along with the AGM information pack at which point the motions will be opened up to proxy voting (again for current Tour Pro members) with a deadline of 9pm on Friday 26th February.

2016 Tour Pros will be eligible to attend the AGM and will have the opportunity to vote on any of the motions in person (NB. there is only 1 vote per member and motions will be passed or rejected on a majority vote).

For 2016 we have two tiers of membership. Tour Pro Membership for the 2016 season is £30 and entitles players to discounted pre-event practice rates at tournament venues on the calendar (some venues will offer these rates all season). The 2016 season will also see discounted entry for the key events on the calendar for Tour Pros (such as the British Championships, British Open and British Masters). Alternatively, you can register for free membership via the website.

Following the success of the last few years we are again offering an ‘Early Bird’ Tour Pro membership of just £20 for players who take out 2016 Tour Pro Membership up to and including Friday 26th February 2016. Details and a membership form can be found at

Please note that all players selected for the Great Britain teams for 2016 must ensure that they renew their Tour Pro membership to be eligible for selection.

Following the success of last seasons competition, the British Matchplay Championship for 2016 will once again stay with the tried and tested original knockout format, mirroring the FA Cup with no seeding, no group stages and random draws to add extra spice to the championship.

The tournament will run all season long and will see 5 rounds of matches taking place to decide the champion - the round of 32, Round of 16, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals culminating with the Final (and third place play off).

There are just 32 places available for the competition and entries are open now (closing on Friday 26th February or once all 32 places have been taken).

Entry costs just £5 (payment secures entry into the event) and are only being taken via PayPal for this event - entries are payable via PayPal using the 'send money' option at to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please put "BMC" in the notes when making payment and any names if paying for more than one player.

The draw for the opening round will take place once all spaces are taken and will be a random draw - always guaranteed to throw up some epic clashes as the tournament gets under way!

The players will be able to decide between them where and when the tie is to be played (this can be at any 18 hole course) and players are encouraged to take photos and video footage where possible to highlight their own matches (along with announcing the date and venue of the tie in advance to give spectators the chance to attend!).

There are cut off dates for matches in each round to be played (these will be confirmed before the first round draw) and if players have not played the match by the deadline then the tie will go to a 'pools panel' who will look at how many official BMGA events each player has attended in the timeframe. If one player has attended more then they will be awarded the tie. If however this is not decisive then both players will be disqualified from the championship and one of the losers from a completed match will progress to the next round in their place!

The primary reason for this rule is quite simply to ensure that the matches are played out to a conclusion and players are to bear this in mind before putting their names into the first round draw.

The deadlines for matches will be confirmed shortly:

Results from each match will be published on the BMGA website and full details of the rules and format for the Matchplay ties will be communicated when the draw for Round 1 takes place.
