BMGA Tour set to visit Wales for the inaugural Wales Open in Cardiff this weekend PDF Print E-mail

Now that the international break is over, Sunday 6th September sees the BMGA Tour visit Wales for the first time for the inaugural WALES OPEN.

The Open will be contested over three rounds of strokeplay on the ANCIENT EXPLORER course at the excellent TREETOP ADVENTURE GOLF CENTRE in Cardiff.

With around 20 locals already ready and waiting to take on the BMGA’s finest, it looks like Cardiff is relishing the opportunity to take on the best of the BMGA's Tour Pros in what promises to be an eagerly contested but fun event. To date 6 of the top 10 tour players in the order of Merit have committed to the event - including the reigning English Open Champion Sean Homer and the recently crowned Scottish Open Champion. Michael Smith - with there being approximately 940 ranking points up for grabs.

As well as the overall Welsh Open title there is also a dedicated trophy for the top Local novice, who will be named the Treetop Open Champion at the end of the competition.

In a first for an indoor event on the BMGA tour, the course are also offering an exclusive practice session for tournament competitors on the Saturday morning (9am to 1pm), with the tournament course closed to the general public for this session.

However before the serious business of the Open, the event will be officially launched with a pro-am event on Friday 4th, where Tour Pros and members of the 2015 Great Britain team will line up with local Teams for the Wales Open Pro-Am Trophy. Tour Pro's taking part in the Friday pro-am will be able to get free practice on the Saturday morning - all other players will need to pay the day rate of £10.

Food and Drinks will be served from 6.30pm with a 7.30pm tee off.

There is still time to enter the events and any Tour Pros keen to take part in the pro-am or the main event on Sunday need to contact the organisers at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ASAP (the cut off for entries into the Wales Open is Saturday at 3pm).
