First Strokeplay event of 2015 sees the new Club Champions, the Midlands MGC host their club open PDF Print E-mail

The BMGA tour says a fond farewell to the Dorridge 12 hole minigolf course at the 2015 Midlands Open.

Sunday 22nd March sees the first strokeplay event of the season take place as the Midlands Minigolf Club, fresh from their success at the British Club Championship, hold their annual Club Open event at the popular Midlands venue. The course is scheduled to be destroyed later this year and replaced with an all new adventure style course so this is the final BMGA tour event to take place at what has been an ever present fixture on the tour for many years.

Midlands Club captain and reigning Midlands Open champion, Michael Smith comments "Whilst every tournament on the BMGA tour is special in its own unique way, the Midlands Open 2015 will be a truly historic event, as this will almost certainly be the last BMGA event to be held on the current course at Dorridge before a new course is built at Four Ashes Golf Centre and the current course is destroyed. This course has hosted numerous Midlands Opens and Midlands Invitational Tournaments, as well as many other great tournaments on the BMGA Tour. After all, who could forget Rocky Bullin winning the first Midlands Open after beating arguably the greatest British minigolfer of all time, Tim Davies, in a sudden-death play-off? Or the memorable British Doubles final of 2011 where Richard Skeggs and Oliver Florence produced a phenomenal performance against the reigning champions Marc Chapman and Chris Harding, before losing in a play-off? Or later that year, another great match where The Green Minigolf Club was a putt away from winning the British Club Championship, before losing out to the defending champions, the Kent Spitfires?

We can’t promise that level of drama in the 2015 Midlands Open, but it certainly won’t be from a lack of trying. Spaces are still available, but as there's a limit of 36 players, I’d urge players who are interested in competing to secure their places as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday 22nd March.”
