There's a new minigolf Sheriff in Nottingham as Homer wins the English Open.

2014 saw the return of the English Open to the BMGA tour, taking place at the Lost City indoor Adventure Golf course in Nottingham. The three round event took place on the Temple Trail course at the Cornerhouse complex in Nottingham City centre with 27 players from across the UK taking part. Sean Homer (Kent Minigolf Club) won the title, finishing 22 shots under par (a three round average of 28.7), beating former champion Michael Smith (Midlands Minigolf Club) by 3 shots. Chris Smith (Midlands Minigolf Club) came third following a three way play-off with Chris Harding and Will Donnelly.

Speaking after the event, Sean said "It's always great to win another title particularly when you're up against such a strong field including the cream of the Midlands Minigolf club on their own turf. After two rounds of 28 and with a two stroke lead, I was in confident mood and it was great to go head to head with Michael in the final round. We've had a few battles on the greens over the years and having been in a similar position at last years Kent Open, and lost, it was particularly pleasing to come out on top this time around! I'm looking forward to the World Crazies in a few weeks time as I'm in good form and keen to go one place better than my runner-up slot in last years event. Thanks to Lane Scott and Laura Kirby from the Lost City for their hospitality over the weekend and providing us with such a great venue for the English Open and also to all of my team mates at the KMGC for their messages of encouragement and support in the build up to the competition. VTK."

There were a number of other prize winners across the day. In Category 2, Steve Lovell (Sussex Wasps Minigolf Club) took the title with fellow Wasp Paul Preston 2nd and Emily Gottfried (Cambridgeshire and Essex Minigolf Club) in third place. James Trubridge won the Category 3 title, with Brenda Smith 2nd and Owen Johnson 3rd (all from the Midlands Minigolf Club). In the Category 4 for players on their first year on the tour, Geoff Farmer took the spoils in his debut tour event, with Anthony Tetley coming second having beaten Jake Tetley (his son) in a play off. Will Donnelly won the Category 1 aces prize, with Paul Johnson taking the Cat 2 prize and Helen Dodd the Cat 4 Aces champion title.
