Adam Kelly and Will Donnelly with coach Sean Homer represent Great Britain at the 2014 World Championships

The 2014 Youth World Championships was held from Wednesday 6 August to Saturday 9 August in Lahti, Finland with three members of the 2014 Great Britain Minigolf squad taking part in the event. Will Donnelly and Adam Kelly competed in the event supported by fellow International Sean Homer as the teams official coach for the competition (all three from the Kent Minigolf Club).

Players from twelve countries - Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland and Sweden - competed in the tournament held on the two 18-hole courses - one Swedish Felt and the other Eternite - across the competition days 6-9 August.

After 3 days of intense competition in Finland, Adam finished the individual strokeplay event with a total of 292 stokes in 26th place, with Will shooting a combined total of 394 to finish in 53rd place.

The competition saw British minigolf history made as Adam became the first British player in any class, in any Internaitonal Championship event, to secure a place in the Matchplay finals that took place on the final day of the event. The top 32 players in the boys competition qualified for the matchplay championships, with each match taking place across 9 designated lanes each on the two courses. After a thrilling match, Adam just lost out to Igor Pantelimonov from Russia by 4 lanes to 2 (Igor went on to win all 5 matches on the day to be crowned the Youth World Matchplay Champion). A breakdown of the Matchplay results can be found at

On arriving back in the UK, Sean said "The tournament was a great learning experience for all of us and I was very proud to see our two top juniors taking on the best youth players in the world. The support and encouragement we received from back home was also hugely appreciated by all of us while we were away in Finland and knowing we had all of our fellow minigolfers cheering Adam and Will on was fantastic. Once again the players looked outstanding in their national kit and a big thanks to all the team at UrbanCrazy for their ongoing sponsorship of the Great Britain team. On behalf of all three of us, I would like to say a massive thanks to the Finnish coaching team of Pasi Aho, Aki Sillman and Oskari Vihervaara for their support and hard work throughout the tournament. Not only did they provide the best possible coaching and guidance for the Great Britain team but they, along with the Finnish youth players Juuso, Eeto and Ida, ensured the entire stay in Lahti was great fun!".
