2014 British Masters preview: Splash Point in Worthing hosting the event for the 3rd time PDF Print E-mail
While the world’s top golfers are battling it out on the fairways and greens of Augusta for the coveted Masters green jacket in April, Britain’s minigolfers will compete in their own British Masters on the south coast.

As the BMGA tour resumes after the winter break, the Masters tees off a busy couple of months in the calendar with the British Championships and World Adventure Golf Masters also taking place over the coming weeks. A large and competitive field is expected in Worthing with players from across the UK competing over 72 holes (4 rounds) of minigolf on Sunday 13 April, to coincide with the final day of the US Masters in Augusta. The winner will receive a cash prize, the British Masters trophy and the legendary tweed jacket - which unlike its Augusta equivalent is passed on from winner to winner rather than being tailored for the champion each year.

2013 Masters jacket handover
Adam Kelly receives the legendary Jacket from Michael Smith, the outgoing champion, at the 2013 event

Adam Kelly, from Linton, is the defending British Masters champion, British number 2 and reigning British Junior Champion. Speaking as he prepares for the tournament Adam is in confident mood. "I look forward to defending my title in Worthing. The British Masters 2013 was a very significant win in my minigolf career and I am very fond of the tournament and the Splash Point course. I am expecting to face a strong challenge from the likes of Nuno, Sean and Michael, as well as the local experts such as Peter, but I fully intend to retain the jacket for the first time in the modern era of the BMGA."

Splash Point Mini Golf opened in 2010 on the seafront at Worthing. The course, which is owned and run by BMGA members Peter Emmerson and Anthony Pope, is playing host to the British Masters for the third successive year."We're really pleased The Masters is returning to Splash Point and Worthing for the 3rd time this April. We're especially proud to be hosting an event that has such a rich Minigolf heritage. All the previous tournaments have delivered top-class winners who have shown their putting ability on arguably one of the toughest courses on the UK Minigolf circuit. We're sure the event will produce 4 great rounds of drama and another eventual worthy winner. We hope competitors enjoy their stay in Worthing and we'll keep our fingers crossed for some great seaside weather.

"The British Masters is always an eagerly anticipated event on the tour and with Splash Point hosting the competition for the thirdyear in a row, we should see a feast of minigolf as the top players from across the UK fight it out for the honour to wear the coveted BMGA Masters jacket and be crowned the Masters champion 2014," said BMGA chairman Sean Homer. "The course always proves to be a tough challenge and will be one of the hardest events to call in terms of who will win. Whoever wins will be a worthy champion and it promises once again to be a brilliant event."

Full round by round results will be streamed 'live' on the internet from Sunday morning at the following link: (this link will show the confirmed registered players prior to the event start on the 13th).
The weekend will also feature a Hole in One charity challenge on Sunday afternoon, open to all on the day.

There will be more updates and information being posted on our official Facebook page ( our Twitter feed ( in the build up to the event.

The weekend before the Masters sees members of the Great Britain Minigolf Team travelling to the new Charnwood Golf Centre in Loughborough to take part in the grand opening of the new 9 hole course at the centre.
