Players from eleven countries - Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, , Portugsl, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland and Sweden - competed in the tournament held on the two 18-hole courses - one Swedish Felt and the other Eternite - across the competition days 7-10 August..

After 3 days of intense competition in Portugal, Freddie finished the individual strokeplay event with a total of 409 in 58th place, with Will shotting a combined total of 391 to finish in 57th place.

On arriving back in the UK, Will said ""I have had a great time in Portel. The whole experience has been great, I have met loads of new people while also playing quite well on the course! I was really pleased to shoot a 25 in the tournament on a brand new course for me. It has been great to have received coaching from one of the best minigolf nations in the world (Finland), I feel that this really helped me in the tournament & also given me a lot more knowledge about different things in the sport of minigolf. I would certainly be interested in representing Great Britain again in an international tournament; I really enjoyed the courses & for me have to be in my favourite courses ever played!"

Michael, having expereinced his first international event as a coach said "I had a great time in Portel and it was a great experience for all three of us. Considering Freddie's lack of recent play and Will's age and previous inexperience of European minigolf, I thought they both did very well. The courses were tough but both players gave it everything and played really well at times. Although Will's 25 on Eternite and 40 on Felt are the rounds that stick out, it is the attitude and work ethic of both boys that made the biggest impression on me. Hopefully they learnt a lot from this tournament and will use this experience to become better players, both in Britain and abroad. I know they had a great time off the course as well which was a nice bonus. I have every belief that with their enthusiasm for minigolf, they can be a big part of the future of the sport in this country."

Reflecting on a busy month of minigolf and travel, Michael continued "From a personal point of view, it was a very useful experience. It was a great honour to help coach our boys and I learnt a huge amount about European minigolf from observing the very best youth players in the world and their coaches. Hopefully we can continue to use these Youth World and European Championships as an opportunity to give our most talented juniors experience of playing on Eternite, Beton, and Felt courses. It's vital we invest in our juniors - they are the future of the sport after all - and hopefully this was a big step in that process. I'd like to thank Sean Homer, Martin Tomanek, Pasi Aho and the rest of the Finnish Minigolf Federation, as well as Alastair and Karen, Dave and Jean, and our sponsors Urban Crazy. Without those people and organisations, we would not have been able to
