As the BMGA tour takes it's traditional summer break, here is the latest news, results and information from the British Minigolf Association. 

GREAT BRITAIN AT THE WMF YOUTH AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS  

Whilst the main tour are taking a well earned break during the summer, our international teams are currently gearing up to challenge the best players from across the globe at the WMF (World Minigolf Sport Federation) Youth European Championships in Portel, Portugal (from 7 - 10 August) and the WMF World Championships taking place in Bad Münder, Germany.

Our Youth team comprises of Will Donnelly and Freddie Blackburn-Shaw and will be supported by team coach, Michael Smith. The mens team, taking part in the World Championships are James Rutherford. Michael Smith, Adam Kelly, Sean Homer, Tony Kelly, Seth Thomas and Scott Lancley with a coaching team headed up by former British Champion Keith Kellard.

I am sure all of you will be wishing our players the very best of luck when the competitions tee off in a few weeks time (further details including links to online results will be published as soon as they are confirmed).

This weekend (Sat 27th July) sees a special event taking place at Wellington Country Park with the grand opening of a brand new 12 hole adventure golf course at the veniue. Members of the Great Britain teams will be at the course taking part in a pre-European tour training session to mark the official opening of the course as well as taking on all comers in challenge matches in the afternoon as they gear up for their forthcoming competitions. NEXT EVENTS 

Following the summer break, the tour will move onto the 2nd Major of the season - the BRITISH OPEN at Strokes Adventure Golf Course in Margate .

The weekend of September 21st and 22nd sees the flagship event of the BMGA tour, the BRITISH OPEN return once again to Strokes Adventure Golf. This will be the 5th time the course has hosted the event and is regarded as one of the best courses in the UK, a fitting venue for our premier event of the year. All players will play 4 rounds on Saturday and then there will be a cut with the top 36 players (and ties) or any player making the qualifying score (176 strokes or lower) making it through to day 2. Sunday will see the qualifiers play another 2 rounds with the top 18 then progressing to the Super Final round to decide the winner.


Entry to the event is £35 for BMGA members and £20 for juniors (under 18's) and £40 for non-members.

Friday 20th will see the PLAYERS and INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIPS take place, the traditional curtain raiser to the British Open weekend. This is open to all players and entry costs £5 per person (payable on the day) and the competition will tee-off at 2pm. All players compete in the 1st round with the lowest scores across 1 round of strokeplay moving into the semi finals (all Matchplay ties) with the winners taking on each other at one final round of strokeplay to decide the title. The winner gets to nominate a charity of their choosing to donate 50% of the entry fees to, along with all of the the Hole In One Charity Challenge funds for the season (there will be a challenge as well at the Plkayers Championship, the Saturday of the Open along with the a final one for the season at the World Crazy Golf Championship). There is no need to pre-register for the Players Championships, just make sure you are at the course and registered on the day by 1.45pm.

RESULTS ROUND-UP 

The 2013 BRITISH MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP took place at the Boscombe Chine Minigolf course in Dorset on Sunday 7th July. Michael Smith retained his title beating John Moore in the final match of the day 2&1 to secure his second Matchplay championship win.

WORLD CRAZY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP 2013
 

Entries are currently open to all for the final major of the year, the 2013 World Crazy Golf Championship, taking place across the weekend of October 26 and 27 at the Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf Course in Hastings.

Entry costs £35 with a reduced entry fee of £30 for 2013 BMGA Tour Pros. There are limited places available on a first come first served basis (payment secures entry) and following ongoing unprecedented demand the field has been opened up to 90 places. This is the final extension to places - once the 90 slots are taken entries will close.
