BMGA tour on the way to Boscombe and Sandbanks for Dorset double-header weekend PDF Print E-mail
This weekend sees the BMGA tour make a welcome return to the Boscombe Chine and Sandbanks courses in Dorset.

The main event of the weekend, the British Matchplay Championship, tees off at 9am on Sunday 7 July, at the Boscombe Chine Minigolf course. The course has previously held the BMGA British Doubles Championship in 2009, and this is the first time in 4 years that a BMGA event will take place on the picturesque course in the heart of Boscombe Chine Gardens.

The event will be held over two phases, the first being a league format with round-robin matches contested between the players in each group. This will be followed by a knock out stage where the players at the top half of each group play each other for the overall top places in the competition and the remainder play each other for the lower placings. The event is unique in that all players play the same number of matches across the course of the day and the final round of matches will decide the final finishing positions - ensuring that every match has something riding on it - and guaranteeing some top class minigolf across the event.

All matches are played out using matchplay rules and always produces one of the closest, competitive events on the BMGA tour.

As is traditional in the event, the random draw for the groups will take place on the Saturday at the course, and with no seeding for players, this always throws up some very enticing draws as the groups take shape. The random draw continues thoroughout the competition, with the knock out sections also seeing the FA Cup style draw in place for each round.

Entry to the event costs just £20 for a full days play (with 6 or 7 rounds of minigolf expected for each player) and full details. along with an entry form and contact information can be found at

The Boscombe course is part of a three course circuit in Dorset with the Poole Park and Sandbanks Crazy Golf course all run by the same owner, longtime BMGA tour supporter Tony Unsworth. The courses are operating a £10 practice day rate for BMGA tour pro's and uniquely this rate allows players to unlimited practice each day across all three courses.

The weekend also sees another great event taking place over at the Sandbanks Crazy Golf course on the Saturday evening - the Sandbanks Crazy Golf Doubles Competition. Starting at 6pm, the event is open to teams of two players (entry £10 per team) and will take place over 2 rounds of the 18 hole course. The cumulative total for each player will make the team score for the event, with the lowest team score after the 2 rounds winning the event and picking up £150 to share between them!

All players will use the standard course balls for the event, making it a real leveller for local players against the travelling tour pro's and it promises to be a great start to the weekends competitions.

Sean Homer, Chairman of the BMGA said "its great to be coming back to Dorset as we have always had some excellent events when we have previously come to the South West. Having two events taking place across the weekend is also quite unique and I am delighted that we have been able to get these two very different competitions onto the tour this season. The pairs event at Sandbanks will be a brilliant curtain raiser to the Matchplay Championships taking place the following day and should be a great way to tee off the competition double header."

The BMGA Tour consists of Minigolf ranking events that take place at Minigolf, Crazy Golf and Adventure Golf courses across the UK.
