2013 BMGA TOUR CALENDAR CONFIRMED PDF Print E-mail

The 2013 season promises to be another excellent year for the BMGA tour and I am delighted to announce the details of all the Majors for the forthcoming year along with a number of other events that will be taking place throughout year.

The season tee’s off with what has become the traditional season opener over the past few years, the STAR CITY OPEN on Sunday 27th January at the indoor Star City Adventure Island Golf complex in Birmingham. The event will consist of 3 rounds and following the success of last years event will be taking place on just one course (the Lost Hut aka the upper course).

The first outdoor event of the year takes place on Sunday March 3rd as we see a brand new event on the BMGA tour - the BRITISH CRAZY GOLF OPEN - taking place at the legendary Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf course at Hastings seafront. The event is open to all players (with BMGA Tour Pro's benefitting from a reduced entry fee) and will mirror the format of the second day of the World Crazy Golf Championships - 2 rounds of strokeplay followed by a final 3rd round using the Crazy Crazy rules - with all competitors using the standard course ball. However unlike the WCGC's, all players will play this final round and get the chance to experience the fun and mayhem of having all balls in play at once (something that only the top 18 players get to enjoy at the World Championship).

Taking place over the same weekend as the US Masters in Augusta, the BMGA BRITISH MASTERS. takes place on Sunday 14th April, and is being held for the second time at Splash Point Mini Golf in Worthing. The event will once again take place across 4 rounds of strokeplay, with the winner picking up the title along with the coveted BMGA Masters Jacket.

The two day BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS will be contested at Wroxham Barns in Norfork (the course having previously hosted the event in 2010) across the weekend of 11th and 12th May. As well as the overall British Champion being crowned, the event will also see the British Senior, Junior and Womens titles being fought out across the 2 day, seven round event. In keeping with previous visits to Norfork we will also be hoping to once again get players involved in a pro-am event during the weekend.

The end of May sees the NATIONS CUP taking place in Bad Münder, Germany across the 18th and 19th May.

June sees our second visit of the year to Hastings as the 2013 WORLD ADVENTURE GOLF MASTERS (WAGM) is taking place in the UK for the third year running, with the Pirate Course at the Hastings seafront once again hosting the competition on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June. There are no restrictions regarding entries for the 2013 competition (other than the ceiling for entries is set at a maximum of 72 players) and that entries will be open to all players (not just restricted to National team players).

Pasi Aho, WMF Sport Director says "I am glad that we can come back to Hastings and Pirate course for third year in a row. The first two years have proven that the course is fair and challenging, just what a MOS course for international championships should be. It is also always good to know that the players are in good hands with the BMGA and Hastings Seafront staff. The organisation has been flawless in the past two years. 2013 the competition will be played over Saturday and Sunday to enable more British player to participate without having to take holidays. It seems likely that we'll have this a national team from Sweden too playing next to the German team who also is planning to participate. So all set for a great WAGM 2013 in sunny Hastings"

In July the tour will be making a welcome return to Dorset for the first time since 2009 as the Boscombe Chine Minigolf Course hosts the BRITISH MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP taking place on Sunday 7th July. Featuring 32 players in 8 groups of 4 followed by a Knockout stage this promises to be another nail biting Matchplay event. Saturday evening will also see a Pro-Am charity event taking place at the Sandbanks Crazy Golf course and this should be a great warm up for the main event on Sunday.

The WORLD MINIGOLF CHAMPIONSHIP takes place in Bad Münder, Germany from August 21st to 24th.

The weekend of September 21st and 22nd sees the BRITISH OPEN return to Strokes Adventure Golf in Margate. The course has previously hosted the event in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012 and is regarded as one of the best courses in the UK, a fitting venue for our premier event of the year. As is traditional, the PLAYERS & INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP will take place on the Friday afternoon.

The final Major of the year, the WORLD CRAZY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP at the Seafront Crazy Golf Course in Hastings will be taking place across the weekend of 26th & 27th October. The format will remain the same as for the past 2 years. As has been the case for the past few years, entries will open up initially to BMGA Tour Pro’s only and we will be confirming full details of the entry process in the forthcoming weeks.

The traditional strokeplay season closing event, the KENT OPEN will be taking place at the Lost Island Encounter in Sidcup on Sunday 10th November. Following on from the success of the 2012 event, all players will once again use the official ball of the Kent Open.

Following the succes of the event in 2012, the BRITISH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP will again be taking place at the Basingstoke Golf Centre on Sunday 24th November, rounding off another terrific season on the BMGA tour.

Full details and entry forms will be uploaded in the Upcoming Events section of the official BMGA website shortly.

If you want to get involved in helping to run events on the tour then please drop me a line - we are always on the look out for people to help with the running of our events and all help, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated.

So with a brilliant line-up of events already in place and a few other competitions still to be confirmed, I'm sure you will agree that the year ahead looks like another vintage year on the BMGA tour.

Here’s to a great 2013 season!
