BMGA Players Championships to be held at Strokes Adventure Golf in Margate on Miniature Golf Day PDF Print E-mail

Strokes Adventure Golf in Margate, Kent to host the BMGA Players Championships for domestic and international players on Friday 21st September 2012.

Prior to this weekend’s main-event BMGA British International Open minigolf tournament the 18-hole Strokes Adventure Golf course on Westbrook Promenade in Margate, Kent will be the host venue for the BMGA Players Championships. Two competitions will run in parallel, with the UK players competing for the BMGA Players Championship title and the overseas players contesting the BMGA International Players Championship.

Players from England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Finland, Sweden and New Zealand will compete in the event which takes place on ‘Miniature Golf Day’.

The format of the BMGA Players Championships is unique and the event has been the traditional curtain raiser for the BMGA British Open since 1999. Entry costs £5 per person (payable on the day) and the competition will tee-off at 2pm (registration can be completed prior to 1.45pm on the day). The tournament will see all players compete in one-round of Strokeplay Minigolf, with the top players then meeting in a Matchplay round. The winners of the Matchplay games will then play one further round of Strokeplay Minigolf with the player shooting the lowest round score declared the winner. On the 22nd and 23rd September the BMGA British International Open will see 44 players compete for the ‘Major’ Minigolf title. Four former BMGA British International Open Champions will be lining up to compete for the 2012 title. They are Mattias Ståhl (SWE), Torgny Kjellström (SWE), Jouni Valkjärvi (FIN) and Karsten Hein (GER). The defending BMGA British Open champion is Canterbury’s Marc ‘The Force’ Chapman, a member of the Kent Minigolf Club.

Spectators are welcome to attend the Minigolf events over the weekend and can find out more about the sport of Minigolf from the BMGA Tour players and international competitors. The final rounds of the BMGA British Open and prize-giving will take place at the Strokes Adventure Golf course on Sunday afternoon.

The British Minigolf Association (BMGA) always welcomes new members. Anyone living in the UK and aged at least 14 can join in the fun. For 2012 the BMGA is again offering two tiers of membership. BMGA Tour Card Membership costs £20 and entitles players to discounted pre-event practice rates at tournament venues on the calendar (some venues will offer these rates all season). Alternatively you can register for free membership via the BMGA website, ensuring you receive regular newsletters on forthcoming events and results from the BMGA tour.

The BMGA Tour consists of Minigolf ranking events that take place at Minigolf, Crazy Golf and Adventure Golf courses across the UK. In 2011 there were 22 Ranking BMGA Tour competitions and a total of 12 players lifted BMGA Tour titles in Open, Invitational, Club and Doubles events.
