Minigolf to feature as a sport in the 2012 Oswestry Games PDF Print E-mail

Players from the British Minigolf Association & Great Britain Squad to hold coaching sessions and tournaments at multi-sport event in Shropshire.

Minigolf has been accepted as a sporting activity in the 2012 Oswestry Games, a multi-sport community event which will take place in and around Oswestry, Shropshire in July 2012. The British Minigolf Association will be taking part in the Oswestry Games on the 14th & 15th July and will be offering a mix of Have a Go activities, Coaching, Demonstrations, a Pro-Am Doubles/Team event, an Elite Competition for BMGA Tour Pro players and an ‘Open’ competition.

Players from the British Minigolf Association (BMGA) Tour and members of the Great Britain Minigolf Team will be on-hand at the Oswestry Games to introduce people to the game of Minigolf and also team with members of the public in a Pro-Am Doubles competition. The contest will be held at Cae Glas Park on Saturday 14th July. The course will be open from 8am until dusk as normal and Coaching & Demonstrations will begin at 11am. The competition will start at 1pm.

On Sunday 15th July the Oswestry Games fun day will be taking place at Oswestry Leisure Centre and a Minigolf course will be set-up for the public to play from 9am-5pm. The course will cost £2 per round and everyone who plays will be able to enter their best score into the BMGA Oswestry Open competition which will run from 9am-3.30pm. Players will also be able to sign-up for a free British Minigolf Association standard membership. The competition will be taking place on a minigolf course layout provided by

During the Oswestry Games fun day members of the British Minigolf Association will be competing in a five-round contest to crown the BMGA Oswestry Championship winner in an elite player contest.

Oswestry Games medals will be on offer to winning competitors on both days. The top players in the Pro-Am and Open will also receive BMGA ‘Tour Pro’ memberships and free entry to a future one-day BMGA Tour Competition.

Players can turn up on the day to join in the Minigolf activities. Susie Hancock from the Oswestry Games Organising Committee said “We were surprised to be contacted by the British Minigolf Association but their event is a fantastic addition to the Oswestry Games programme.  Crazy Golf is a favourite holiday game for many local families at our own minigolf course in Cae Glas Park.  The BMGA Pro-Am tournament in the Park on Saturday will be a unique opportunity for local people of all ages to learn from the Pros and enjoy a brilliant sport.  I am excited that the BMGA and have also offered to bring their portable course to the Family Fun Day on Sunday 15th July.  My son is looking forward to having a go on it too!”

The British Minigolf Association (BMGA) is the governing body for Minigolf Sport, including Crazy Golf and Adventure Golf. Formed in 1998 the BMGA organises Minigolf events for its members across the UK. The BMGA Tour consists of Minigolf ranking events that take place at courses across the UK.
