Minigolf Event – Fourth Annual Weymouth Open at Lodmoor Country Park on Sunday 9th October 2011

The fourth annual Weymouth Open minigolf competition will be taking place at the 18-hole Pirate Adventure Golf course at the Sea Life Centre in Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth, Dorset on Sunday 9th October.

This year the tournament promises to be bigger and better with the addition of a Team Tournament which will see groups drawn to play against each other, with each team also including an experienced player from the British Minigolf Association (BMGA) as a team-mate.

The tee-off time for the team tournament is 11am with the individual tournament starting at midday.

Entry to the main adult tournament is £6 for two rounds of competition play. Juniors can enter the competition for £4 each. The team tournament is £15 with teams made up of between 2-5 players.
The overall Weymouth Open minigolf competition winner will receive the prestigious Weymouth Open trophy which they can retain for one-year, a medal and £100 prize money. The best local player will receive a medal and £60 of Argos Vouchers. The best junior player will receive a medal and an Annual Merlin Pass. The best overall team will win a Team Cup and a meal and round of drinks at the William Henry in Weymouth.

An application form for the event can be found here. The entry deadline is on Friday 8th October.

The tournament is organised by Pirate Adventure Golf Course Manager Edward Evans and the staff at the Weymouth Sea Life Centre, and supported by the British Minigolf Association.

Last year Oxford’s Michael Smith won the Weymouth Open in an 18-player field, with Birmingham’s Matthew Harding winning the Junior Contest.

Reigning and defending Weymouth Open minigolf champion Michael Smith said "I am looking forward to returning to Weymouth to try and defend my title. The course is a fantastic test of skill and is arguably the hardest course that is featured on the BMGA Tour. Any round under 40 is a very good score. With several top BMGA players likely to attend, the Weymouth Open 2011 looks set to be a great minigolf tournament."
Marc Chapman from the BMGA said "The British Minigolf Association Tour is very pleased to be returning to Weymouth Sea Life Centre's Pirate Adventure Golf course for a fourth year and with the field set to include the reigning Weymouth Open Champion Michael Smith, the two previous Champions, Kevin Moseley and Richard Gottfried, and lot of other BMGA players and local talent the event will hopefully be the biggest yet."

The next tournaments on the BMGA Tour calendar are the Planet Hastings Crazy Golf Club Open and the Castle Golf World Crazy Golf Championships in Hastings in October.
