British Minigolf Association Tour makes its return to Scotland and a first visit to Dunfermline

The 2011 British Minigolf Association season continues on Sunday 1st May as the two 18-hole Adventure Golf Island courses at Fife Leisure Park, Dunfermline, Scotland host the BMGA Scottish Open minigolf competition.

The BMGA Scottish Open tournament will tee-off at 9am and will see British Minigolf Association (BMGA) Tour players, along with local players, competing over four rounds (72-holes) on the two 18-hole Adventure Golf courses at Adventure Golf Island at Fife Leisure Park. Entry to the event is £20 per player (£10 for under-18s). Further details and an entry form can be found online at http://www.minigolf.org.uk/joomla/index.php?option=com_eventlist&view=details&id=67&Itemid=56

The BMGA Tour consists of Minigolf ranking events that take place at Minigolf, Crazy Golf and Adventure Golf courses across the UK. Last year there were 22 BMGA Tour competitions and a total of 15 players lifted BMGA Tour titles.

The Pirate-themed courses – Treasure Island and Pirate's Cove – offer players the opportunity to have fun, test their skill and win “Treasure” to exchange for a Free Game! Players must Putt their way amidst waterfalls, fountains, Pirate forts, Palm trees, Tiki Huts and a fully rigged Pirate Ship!

Adventure Golf Island’s Matthew Corrie said “We are delighted that Adventure Golf Island will be holding this tournament. We hope it is a big success and we know it will be a great opportunity for local players to test their skills against some of the very best Mini Golfers in the UK. Forget the Ryder Cup which is next held in Gleneagles, this Cup is the one to win!"

BMGA Chairman Sean Homer said “We are delighted to be making our second trip in our history into Scotland for the 2011 Scottish Open, being held this year at the Pirate Island Adventure Golf in Fife. The venue and location are superb, and with the competition being played out across two top class courses we are guaranteed a terrific event on the 1st May. Matthew and the team at the course have been keen to host a BMGA event since they opened a couple of years ago and I am really pleased that we have been able to include the course in this year’s calendar.”

Homer added “As a new course on the tour and one that none of our regular players has yet to experience I am hoping to see a strong turnout of local players, who will have an advantage in terms of practice and knowledge of the courses, to add further spice into the event. With this in mind I would really encourage as many of the locals to participate as possible, and the more players that take part, the bigger the prize fund available to win. Some of our top ranked players will be making the trip up to Fife, including the current UK number 1 Michael Smith but as it’s our first time at the course it will be a real leveller and impossible to call regarding who will triumph. Whatever happens, it is bound to be a great event and myself and all the players are looking forward to what will hopefully become a fixture of the BMGA tour!”

The 2011 BMGA Scottish Open will be the 2nd edition of the competition. Last year’s BMGA Scottish Open was won by Chris Harding, a member of the Midlands Minigolf Club, who won the title in Aberdeen.
