The WMF and BMGA to organise the new World Adventure Golf Masters Tournament in Hastings, England PDF Print E-mail

The World Minigolf Sport Federation is pleased to announce a great new minigolf event into the international tournament calendar - The World Adventure Golf Masters 2011.

The tournament is being organised by the World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) and the British Minigolf Association (BMGA). The two-day competition will take place on the 13th and 14th of May 2011 at Castle Golf’s brand new Pirate-themed 18-hole Adventure Golf course at the Hastings Adventure Golf seafront minigolf complex in Hastings, East Sussex.

The seven-round tournament will see 72 players from teams from all over the world compete. All WMF member nations are invited to enter the event

The competition will see inaugural World Adventure Golf Masters champions crowned in team and individual categories.

Sean Homer, BMGA chairman, said “2011 promises to be a very important year for our international profile. The relationship between the BMGA and the WMF is at its strongest position to date, and after a strong display of what we are capable of in terms of running a major event at the 2010 British Open we are now poised to host the BMGA’s first ever WMF International event. I am absolutely delighted that we are hosting the inaugural World Adventure Golf Masters, the first time we have hosted a full WMF international event. The competition is hugely important for the WMF and the development of minigolf for 2011 and this is a very positive reflection on the quality and standards that the BMGA operate at. I am looking forward to what will be a memorable and exciting event in May”.

WMF Sport Director Gerhard Zimmerman said “The WMF are very happy about the high level of cooperation we have had with the BMGA, which has allowed us to implement the idea of the new World Adventure Golf Masters event already in 2011. This tournament is a consequent step developed by the WMF Technical Committee. In 2005 the minigolf world became open for MOS (Adventure Golf) as a new official system for WMF minigolf sport to accelerate the process of spreading competition minigolf worldwide. The WAGM will be the next important part to implement this idea. We hereby encourage all national federations to register the interested players by contacting the WMF."

David Hartley
of Hastings Adventure Golf said “We are delighted to be welcoming this new, prestigious, international tournament to Hastings and see this as the perfect launch for our new showpiece ‘Pirate Golf’ course. The secret of designing these courses is in the combination of a tremendous family fun element for people aged anything from 3 to 90 years, along with a serious, challenging medium for international players. The course will present the players with some new obstacles, not least of which is a giant skull that can eat your ball! It will be returned though! However, every hole on the course gives the professional player an opportunity to ‘ace’ it (hole-in-one) but it may sometimes boil down to a direct choice between a risky shot at an ‘ace’ or a more cautious, but achievable ‘two’.”

In the latest World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) Rankings 31 countries are listed, with the top three places held by Sweden, Germany and Switzerland.

The BMGA Tour consists of Minigolf ranking events that take place at Minigolf, Crazy Golf and Adventure Golf courses across the UK. Last year there were 22 BMGA Tour competitions and a total of 15 players lifted BMGA Tour titles.

The WMF is the umbrella organisation of minigolf sports association's worldwide and continental associations in Asia, Europe and America. The WMF is a member of the SportAccord, the General Association of International Sports Federations. The WMF organises biannual world championships for youth and elite players, as well as biannual Continental Championships in Europe, Asia and the USA. There are four minigolf systems recognised by the WMF; Concrete (Beton), Miniaturegolf (Eternit), Feltgolf (Swedish Felt) and Minigolf Open Standard (MOS).

The WMF is in the planning process for a tour with three events on Adventure Golf courses to be introduced in 2012, and further steps will depend on the success of the 2011 WAGM in Hastings.

Potential sponsors for the categories, services and prizes at the World Adventure Golf Masters are encouraged to make contact with the BMGA.
