British Minigolfers finish 2nd and 14th in the 2010 AMF Asian Open Minigolf Championships in China PDF Print E-mail

British Minigolf Association Tour Players Richard Skeggs and Oliver Florence represented Great Britain at the 2010 AMF Asian Open Minigolf Championships from the 5th to the 7th November 2010, with Skeggs winning the silver medal and Florence finishing in a respectable 14th place of 24 male competitors.

The pair lined up alongside top players from countries including China, Japan, Iran, Taiwan, Germany, Hong Kong, Thailand and the United States in the three day tournament that took place at Hello! Pro Minigolf Club, Kunming City, China. The tournament was organised by the Asia Minigolf Sport Federation in conjunction with the World Minigolf Sport Federation.

In the tournament Skeggs finished eight shots off first place, which was taken by Marcel Noack of Germany with a score of 419. Florence missed the ‘cut’ to progress to the final but achieved 14th place overall.

Following the competition Skeggs said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get second. I will certainly be enjoying the party this evening.”

Sean Homer, BMGA chairman, said of Skeggs and Florence’s achievements in China: “Oliver and Richard have performed amazingly well and while they may have previously been unknown to the wider minigolfing community, having seen them perform on the BMGA tour I had a sneaking suspicion that we would see a strong result from the two of them – although the end results surpassed all expectations. From reading the blogs, tweets and forum posts before, during and after the competition it was clear that above all, Richard and Oliver had a great time and represented Great Britain and the BMGA in fine style and have really made a positive mark on the international minigolfing community as a result. I look forward to catching up with them on their return back to the UK and personally congratulating them both on an excellent display on and off the greens!”

Oliver and Richard became the 30th and 31st BMGA tour professionals to make an appearance for Great Britain at an international minigolfsport competition since Peter Parr made received the first GB Cap at the 1999 World Minigolf Championships, in Papendal, The Netherlands.

Earlier this year Great Britain was represented by Marc Chapman, Alan Norman and Coach Anna Green at the EMF European Championships in Predazzo, Italy, and by Andy Exall at the Czech Open. In 2011 the BMGA are planning to send teams to the WMF Nations Cup and World Minigolf Championships in Sweden.
