British Minigolfers return from the EMF European Minigolf Championships in Predazzo, Italy

British Minigolf Association (BMGA) members Marc Chapman and Alan Norman represented Great Britain in the EMF European Minigolf Championships in Predazzo, Italy on the 25th-28th August. In the four-day competition Marc and Alan competed against players from 14 countries. The Great Britain players were coached by Anna Green. All three Great Britain representatives were making their international debut appearances. Chapman finished 66th in the competition, with Norman in 82nd place.

Great Britain International Marc Chapman said “This year’s European Minigolf Championships in Predazzo were an excellent introduction to International level minigolfsport. I learnt so much about my technique, tempo and mental toughness and feel that the experience will lead directly to improved performances domestically and in future international events. With a total of eight rounds played in temperatures of between 26-30 degrees across three competition days it really tested our endurance - I feel that I passed with flying colours and that now a two-day British Major event will seem short in comparison! The welcome we received was fantastic and I would like to thank all the people and organisations that have supported us in making the British Team trip possible including our Official Kit sponsor, UrbanCrazy. I am now looking forward to being part of a full British Team at next year's WMF (World Minigolfsport Federation) events held in Stockholm, Sweden!”

Great Britain International Alan Norman said “I really enjoyed the competition playing amongst the elite and representing Great Britain. It really is a different ball game. Marc played really well, but it just shows how much we have to learn in this game on Eternit and Beton courses.”

UrbanCrazy’s Jon Angel said “We were following the results online throughout the tournament and it was particularly exciting watching the events unfold. Alan’s scoring improved as the event went on, but Marc was certainly a force to be reckoned with! Although he only just missed out on the British Eternit record, consistent low-scoring meant he finished in the highest position for a Briton, ever!  From all of us here at UrbanCrazy, congratulations to Marc, Anna and Alan! We very much look forward to supporting the Great Britain team again at the 2011 World Minigolf Championships in Stockholm.”

BMGA Chairman Sean Homer said “Marc, Alan and Anna have done Great Britain proud with their efforts at Predazzo this year. Having another two seasoned pro’s on the tour with international experience will not only benefit and help raise the ongoing level of minigolf in the UK but also bodes well when we are looking ahead to the World Championships in Stockholm next year. Given the advances made by our 2010 GB team I think we can take a few scalps and surprise a few nations come the 2011 championships!”

Marc Chapman made his minigolf debut in 2009 and is currently ranked 2nd in the Official BMGA Order of Merit and 3rd in the BMGA Season Only Rankings list. Alan Norman debuted in 2007 and is currently ranked 9th in both the Official BMGA Order of Merit and the BMGA Season Only Rankings list.

The Great Britain kit for the competition will be supplied by UrbanCrazy http://www.urbancrazy.com/. Based in London, UrbanCrazy is an innovative and exciting company, designing and building permanent and portable crazy golf, mini golf and adventure golf courses. Great Britain is currently ranked 24th of 30 countries in the WMF Nations World Rankings. With the 2010 European Championships a total of 28 players will have made 59 appearances representing Great Britain in World and European Championships (both Youth and Adult), Nations Cup competitions, and the Asia Open since 1999. The next WMF World Minigolf Rankings list will be published in November 2010, with an update in March 2011.

The Great Britain Minigolf Sport Team will next be competing at the Nations Cup and WMF World Minigolf Championships, both to be held in Stockholm, Sweden, in June and August 2011 respectively.
