BMGA March Newsletter Update - British Masters / WCGC / Players Newsletter info PDF Print E-mail

On Sunday 21st March we welcome a new course to the BMGA tour calendar with our first tournament at the Jurassic Encounter Adventure Golf Course in New Malden for the 2010 BMGA British Masters. Entry fee for competition is £15.00 with the competition scheduled to start at 9am prompt. Full details of the competition along with an updated entrants list can be found here. If you are planning on playing at the Masters but have not yet entered can you please contact me ASAP on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it so that we can ensure no-one misses out on this event.

The course is offering a day practice rate for BMGA members of £10 on Saturday (20th) – players must ensure they bring along proof of ID to ensure they do not miss out on the offer (the course will have a breakdown of entrants). On the Saturday all players must ensure that they do not hold up or get in the way of the courses normal paying customers - i.e. players are only to replay holes or to play with more than one ball when no one is behind them. I expect all of our members to adhere to this etiquette and ensure that nothing jeopardises our excellent relationship with the course or the running of the competition on Sunday.

One of the ideas raised at the recent AGM was to look at ways of offering coaching and development sessions for players on the day before competitions. One idea we are looking at for New Malden is an informal doubles competition where seasoned tour players would link up with new players and take on similar couples in a series of matchplay games – not only helping players with some hints and tips on how to play the course and get an understanding of tournament rules, but also to help players get to know each other before the main event. We are planning on running the first of these events on the Saturday practice day before the Masters and if you would like to get involved (and have the chance at winning a prize or two!) then please drop me a line at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it before the 20th March.

And for those of you who like a bit of history, check out a YouTube video here for a news item from the very first Masters in 2000 from European Tour Weekly programme.

The World Crazy Golf Championship will take place across the weekend of 30th & 31st October this year. The competition again will have a prize-fund of £3,000 but there will be one significant difference this year – it will be played out on one course only, the Crazy Golf course. The format will remain the same, i.e. 7 rounds over 2 days but the field will be restricted to 54 players. The top 18 finishers from 2009 will receive an automatic invite from David Hartley (Castle Golf) but the remaining places will be taken on a strictly first-come, first-served basis and due to the limited spaces will be strictly for members from the BMGA only. The top 18 will be receiving their invites next week and the details of the entry process for remaining BMGA members will be communicated in the next full newsletter and the official BMGA website on Monday 29th March.

So if you haven’t already joined or renewed then now’s the time to do it! BMGA membership for the 2010 season will cost £20.00. However, following discussion at the AGM we have decided to extend the ‘early bird’ initiative for another month so if you join before 1st April 2010 the cost is only £15.00. In addition, new members will receive a free DVD on the 'Rules and Etiquette of Minigolf' on joining the BMGA. Full details and the updated membership application form can be found here

March sees the launch of The Grizzly Bear Newsletter, the new monthly newsletter that goes behind the scenes of the BMGA tour. Each issue will round-up the latest tournament results and rankings as well as a feature and interview with a BMGA tour player, along with features on minigolf courses and debate on the latest issues in the sport. The Grizzly Bear is the brainchild of one of our newest members on the tour, Michael Smith, and Michael is keen to get feedback and ideas from all members who are interested in getting involved in the publication. The first edition can be found attached at the bottom of this communication.

As always, if you have any further questions regarding any of the info on this mailout then please do not hesitate to contact me and I look forward to hopefully seeing you all on a course in 2010!
