BMGA March 2010 Newsletter PDF Print E-mail
It’s been a busy weekend in the world of British minigolf with our second competition of the year taking place along with the BMGA AGM (thanks to all the members for their input and involvement on Saturday) – full details of which will be updated onto our official website in due course. Some of the immediate actions coming out of the AGM are listed below…

BMGA membership for the 2010 season will cost £20.00. However, following discussion at the AGM we have decided to extend the ‘early bird’ initiative for another month so if you join before 1st April 2010 the cost is only £15.00. In addition, new members will receive a free DVD on the 'Rules and Etiquette of Minigolf' on joining the BMGA. Full details and the updated membership application form can be found here

The BMGA is making its debut north of the border for the Scottish Open in May. There will be a guaranteed prize fund of at least £1500 and following discussion again with members at the AGM we have decided to extend the reduced entry fees for BMGA members. Entry to the competition is £15 but BMGA members can take advantage of a special early bird discounted entry rate of just £5.00 if entering before 1st April 2010!! Details of the competition can be found here

We have an opportunity to liaise with a new indoor course (The Green at Hither Green – definitely worth a visit!) which will allow members to place an order for a variety of minigolf equipment from the company NIFO. The course have agreed to split transport and carrier costs with ourselves (usually one of the factors getting in the way of players ordering equipment due to the high cost of carriage from Europe to the UK). If any player is interested in making the most of this offer then please take a look at the NIFO online catalogue - - and email me on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with a breakdown of what kit you would be interested in buying. Once I have the details from the membership I can then discuss this in more detail with the course and then firm up an order accordingly (confirming carriage costs and subsequent payment details from each member keen to make the most of this offer). If you are interested I need to hear back from you with the details of what you would like to order by the end of this week (by end of day Friday 5th March).

With 13 of the top 15 confirmed for the event we are now taking entries for the British Matchplay Championship from members. The field is strictly limited to 32 players in total and entry is on a first come first served basis. Please note entry is only confirmed on receipt of the £15 entry fee. Details of the competition can be found here. When the 32 players have been confirmed we will hold a live internet draw for the first round matches (there will be no seeding in the competition, all draws for each round will be random).

On Sunday 28th February the BMGA made our first trip to Bristol’s Jungle Rumble course for the English Open. Congratulations to Chris Harding for taking the English Open title along with 2 course records (28 on the Jungle Course and 29 on the Secret Swamp course - sharing the latter with John Moore) and collecting £100 along with the title.  Four players tied for the runner-up position and after a series of play offs Michael Smith in only his second ever competition came second, picking up £50, with John Moore taking 3rd place and £25, and Sean Homer picking up fourth place and £15. Kevin Moseley was the unlucky player, missing out in the play offs and taking fifth place. Adam Kelly took the junior title, with Michael Smith picking up the Novice title along with £25 and a new putter. Richard Skeggs took the runner up novice slot, £15 (and 7th place overall) and David Wright won a play off with Daryl Parsons for the third place novice and £10. All of the juniors also receive a complimentary entry into any one day competition on the 2010 tour. Seve Kukielka took the Aces Prize (£20) with 16 across the 3 rounds.

The full results and stats from the competition can be found

On Sunday 21st March we welcome a new course to the BMGA tour calendar with our first tournament at the Jurassic Adventure Golf Course in New Malden for the 2010 BMGA British Masters. Entry fee for competition is £15.00 with the competition scheduled to start at 9am prompt. Full details of the competition along with an updated entrants list can be found here. One of the ideas raised at the AGM was to look at ways of offering coaching and development sessions for players on the Saturday before the competition. One idea we are looking at is an informal doubles competition where seasoned tour players would link up with new players and take on similar couples in a series of matchplay games – not only helping players with some hints and tips on how to play the course and get an understanding of tournament rules, but also to help players get to know each other before the main event – full details of this will communicated in a future newsletter nearer the event.

And on Saturday 24th April the BMGA makes a welcome return to Stratford Upon Avon for the Midlands Open in association with the Midlands Minigolf Club. Entry fee for competition is £15 for adults and £10 for juniors. Entry forms for the event can be found here

The first updated rankings list of the year has been published. Congratulations to Chris Harding for moving back up to the number 1 slot, boosted by taking the first two titles of the year, along with a selection of course records! A full listing of the rankings from 1st place to 75th place can be found here

As always, if you have any further questions regarding any of the info on this newsletter then please do not hesitate to contact me and I look forward to hopefully seeing you all on a course in 2010!

Sean Homer - BMGA Chairman.
