Strokes Adventure Golf course in Margate played host to the British Minigolf Association Tour as 48 players from the UK, Sweden, Germany and Finland competed in the 12th Annual BMGA British Open minigolf tournament at the weekend.

At the top of the rankings it was a Swedish one, two, and three, with Torgny Kjellström the eventual winner with a 7 round total of 232 (-20). Johan Ahlander was second, with Björn Dinau third.
The top ranked British players in the two-day tournament were Tim Davies from Hastings in 5th, Peter Emmerson from Brighton in 6th, and Birmingham’s Chris Harding in 8th place.

London’s Nick Chitty won the aces prize for most holes in one during the tournament, with 18 over six rounds. Chitty also set a new BMGA course record of 30 in the process, which equalled the all time course record held by Björn Dinau. Toby Fitzherbert from London won the top novice prize with an excellent performance in his first competition, beating the challenge of five other rookie players, and achieved 38th place overall.

All players played four rounds on Saturday, before a ‘cut’ was made to decide the group of 36 players who played two more rounds on the Sunday. The top 18 players then took part in the seventh and final ‘Super Round’ to decide the final rankings.

In the traditional warm-up to the British Open 31 players competed in the BMGA Players Championship on Friday in a Strokeplay/Matchplay/Strokeplay format over three rounds. Andy Exall from Tunbridge Wells took the BMGA Players Championship title for the second year running with a score of 35. Ruth Bullin from Hastings was second, with Bill Bullin and Margate’s Matt Wood, picking up his highest BMGA Tour finish to date, in tied third place.

In the International Players Championship, also held on Friday, Torgny Kjellström took the honours in the final round having played a superb 32 to beat Leif Ohrling who shot a 37.

The British Minigolf Association Tour returns to Margate and Strokes Adventure Golf course on Sunday 1st November for the season-closing Kent Open tournament.
