British Minigolf Champion Keith Kellard heads to the WMF World Minigolf Championships in Odense, Denmark PDF Print E-mail

Reigning British Minigolf Association (BMGA) British Champion Keith Kellard from Bishop’s Stortford recently represented Great Britain in the WMF World Minigolf Championships that took place in Odense, Denmark. He competed against 130 players from 22 countries.

After eight rounds of play Kellard, 39, finished in a respectable 76th place of 92 male players, and 105th of 130 players overall. The men’s World Champion was Jonas Gustafsson of Sweden, while the Women’s tournament was won by Sandra Weaver, also from Sweden.

Kellard made his fifth appearance for Great Britain following his international debut in 2004. At the World Championships Kellard was coached by Austria’s Willy Bauer.

London Minigolf Club member and 2007 BMGA British Master Keith Kellard said "It was a very strange experience to play the championship in the indoor arena in Odense. As it was my first competitive experience of Swedish Felt, I was semi-pleased with my performance. The first and fourth rounds sandwiching two disapointing rounds. And my eternit score was a little higher than I'd hoped for."

Kellard is currently ranked 11th in the Official BMGA Order of Merit and is ranked 302nd in the latest WMF Men’s World Ranking List. Kellard’s kit for the competition was supplied by Kingfisher Leisurewear, based in Ludlow, Shropshire, who previously sponsored the Great Britain team in the European Minigolf Championships in Geldrop, Holland in 2006.

Great Britain is currently ranked 20th of 29 countries in the World Minigolf Federation World Rankings.
