British Minigolf Champion Keith Kellard heads to the WMF World Minigolf Championships PDF Print E-mail

Reigning British Minigolf Association (BMGA) British Champion Keith Kellard from Bishop’s Stortford will be representing Great Britain in the upcoming WMF World Minigolf Championships taking place in Odense, Denmark on the 19th-22nd August. He will be competing against 136 players from 22 countries.

Kellard, 39, will be making his fifth appearance for Great Britain following his international debut in 2004. Keith recently qualified as a WMF Minigolf coach as part of a WMF/BMGA and Austrian Minigolf Federation development programme. At the World Championships Kellard will be coached by Austria’s Willy Bauer.

Most World Minigolfsport Federation (WMF) competitions are played on courses that are uncommon in the UK and the World Minigolf Championships will be played on Feltgolf/Swedish Felt and Miniaturegolf/Eternit playing surfaces.

London Minigolf Club member and 2007 BMGA British Master Keith Kellard said “I'm looking forward to playing in Odense for a number of reasons. Firstly, it's an opportunity to play again on Eternit, a system which I like playing as it is a good test of putting skill, where accuracy is key. It will also be great to experience Swedish Felt in the competition arena for the first time.”

“I’ve only previously seen Felt during the training camp in Austria earlier this year, and the weather at the time meant we couldn't play for very long. Having not played the international systems since Canegrate in 2007, it will be good to see if my game has improved, or not, since then.”

Kellard is currently ranked 11th in the Official BMGA Order of Merit and is ranked 302nd in the latest WMF Men’s World Ranking List. Kellard’s kit for the competition will be supplied by Kingfisher Leisurewear, based in Ludlow, Shropshire http://www.kingflw.com/, who previously sponsored the Great Britain team in the European Minigolf Championships in Geldrop, Holland in 2006.

Great Britain is currently ranked 20th of 29 countries in the World Minigolf Federation World Rankings.
