Andy Exall became the new Planet Hastings Crazy Golf Club Open Champion as he defeated 41 minigolfers in the largest field to compete in the event since it began in 2000. Andy took the victory with a four round total of 143 (-1) after rounds of 35 (-1), 38 (+2), 35 (-1) and 35 (-1). In winning he took the title back to Tunbridge Wells for the second year running, as in 2008 it was Andy’s brother Trevor who won. During the Planet Hastings Crazy Golf Club Open the competitors play 72 holes on the three seafront courses and at Planet Hastings (White Rock Gardens).

In second place was Planet Hastings Crazy Golf Club member Peter ‘Empton’ Emmerson with a score of 149 (+5). In tied third before a play-off were Kent Captain Sean ‘Freebird’ Homer and Planet Hastings’ Czech Republic team member Olivia Prokopova both on 151 (+7). In the play-off Sean managed to take the final podium place.

New Planet Hastings Crazy Golf Club Open Champion Andy Exall said “Being a member of Team Kent it was great to put one over the Planet Hastings Pirates on their own patch, playing on four different courses means you only get one chance at each hole so you have to concentrate. Peter (Emmerson) played very well in difficult weather conditions to have a four shot lead over me at the start of the final round, but I played well and he made mistakes to let me back in for the win. It was a good, fun competition with a record number of players competing. My brother Trevor won it last year so it's good to keep it in the family!”

The top three female players were Olivia Prokopova on 151 in 4th, Ruth Bullin in tied 9th with 157 and Jo Williamson in tied 16th on 166

Following the event the top three players in the British Minigolf Association (BMGA ) 2008-2009 Order of Merit Rankings are Chris ‘Who’ Harding (Birmingham), Andy ‘No.2’ Exall (Tunbridge Wells) and Tim ‘Ace Man’ Davies (Hastings).

The latest matches in the season-long BMGA British Matchplay Championships were played on Friday 27th March at the Hastings Seafront Crazy Golf course and a further three players joined Trevor ‘Trevino’ Robertson in round two. The three matches played saw Seve Kukielka beat his father Jas Kukielka at the first extra hole,  John ‘Thighs’ Moore beat Den Exall 6&5 and John ‘Big Top Ted’ McIver beat promising junior Leo Kukielka 4&2.

The next tournament on the BMGA Tour sees the BMGA British Masters title being contested in Southend-on-Sea on Saturday 25th April. The BMGA will be back in Hastings on the 4th & 5th of July for the BMGA British Championships, BMGA British Junior Championship and BMGA British Women’s Championship.
